Alicia Augello Cook, commonly known as Alicia Keys, is an American singer, songwriter, and classically trained piano player. Alicia was born in January 1981 in New York City, USA. She started composing songs when she was just aged 12 and later signed a contract with Columbia Pictures at the age of 15.
Alicia was born in the Hell’s Kitchen area of New York City, and she is the one and the only child of her parents. Her mother was an actress, and also a flight attendant and her father is an African American. Her maternal family migrated from Sciacca in Sicily to the USA whereas her grandmother is of Puerto Rican descent.
Alicia signed an important contract of her life with Arista Records, an American record label company, and then released her first solo album in 2001 with the assistance of J Records, which is an American record label operated by Sony Music Entertainment.
The songs included in the album were well directed and the lyrics were very beautiful too. Her debut album was named Songs in a Minor. The album became a hit and people really liked it. It became a successful commercial hit and received a great response.
Also, the album consisted of her number one single called ‘Fallin’ that was ranked on Billboard Hot 100. About 16 million copies of the album were sold worldwide and Alicia net two Grammy Awards in 2002 on her debut album.
Later on, she released other albums which were all very well received by the audiences. She got four Grammy awards on her album ‘The Diary of Alicia Keys’ and it sold about eight million copies worldwide. Her first live album unplugged was also a big hit that was released in 2005. As I am was her 3rd album and ‘The Element of Freedom’ being fourth.
