Mercury was born in 1946 in Tanzania into an Indian Parsi (Zoroastrian) family that had migrated from Persia to India. His parents Bomi and Jer Bulsara were Parsis and were born in the city of Bulsar in Gujarat, India. The family moved to Tanzania so that his father could continue his job as a cashier.
Back in the 1940s, Tanzia was a British colony and so Mercury was born as a British citizen there.

Lived And Raised In Tanzania

He lived and spent his childhood in India and also took piano lessons there. Later in 1954, he moved to St. Peter?s School, which was a boarding school for boys. He also formed a school band and performed at school along with his bandmates. At the same school, he began calling himself Freddie.

From Tanzania To England

His family escaped the violence and torture of the government of Tanzania which was an Arab majority country and they moved to England. After completing his studies at the Isleworth Polytechnic in Western London he was educated in graphic art and designs at the Ealing Art College.

Once he graduated he joined a number of bands and also traded clothes.

How His Career Shot Off

When he teamed up with a famous guitarist Brian May he was made the lead singer in the group and his journey to success started off. Mercury then produced many superhit albums and performed live in different parts of the world. He was noted for his extraordinary energy on stage and his theatrical concerts.
